In 2020-2021, the Migrant Forum in Asia (MFA), the Cross Regional Center for Refugees and Migrants (CCRM) with the Global Research Forum on Diaspora and Transnationalism (GRFDT) and the Action Committee (AC) jointly organised a series of 23 weekly review discussions focusing on progress at the global level of each of the 23 objectives of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM).
The GCM is the most comprehensive UN intergovernmental negotiated agreement that addresses migration in all its dimensions. Through 23 objectives, the GCM provides a cooperative framework to optimise the overall benefits of migration and address its risks and challenges. It was adopted in 2018 and in its implementation phase underwent Regional Reviews starting in 2020 and the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) in 2022.
The weekly discussions provided a multi-stakeholder space to review progress made on the implementation on each of the GCM objectives. Discussants included representatives from governments, policymakers, UN agencies, civil society, trade unions, local authorities, private sector, academia and other stakeholders.
The webinars were held every Tuesday from September 2020 until March 2021 via Zoom.
Moreover, this 6-month Online Certificate Programme was eligible to issue university credits. For more information see the programme brochure or contact grfdttraining@gmail.com.
